🏑 Pine Rivers St Andrews Hockey Club – A Proud Legacy in Brisbane Hockey

Our Origins: St Andrews Hockey Club (1923–1987)

The story begins in November 1923, when the St Andrews Hockey Club was formed and quickly made its mark by entering an A Grade team in the Brisbane competition in 1924. Remarkably, the team finished runners-up in its debut season. The club’s first premiership came in 1929 in A Grade Division 2, and after 25 years of perseverance, they clinched their first A Grade premiership in 1949, defeating Valleys 2–1. This victory sparked a golden era, with the team frequently finishing as Premiers or Runners-up through the early 1950s.

In 1950, the club secured its first home ground at Rasey Park, Herston, which remained its base until a pivotal moment in 1987.

Amalgamation and Growth: Pine Rivers Meets St Andrews (1987–2000)

In 1987, St Andrews merged with the Pine Rivers Hockey Club, forming a united front at Rob Akers Reserve, Strathpine. This strategic move strengthened St Andrews’ junior base and elevated Pine Rivers to A Grade status. The newly formed St Andrews Mens & Pine Rivers Womens Hockey Club Inc. began competing across all levels—Men’s, Women’s, Boys, and Girls—on both grass and artificial surfaces.

A New Era: South Pine Sporting Complex & Name Change (2000–2001)

In 2000, the club relocated to the South Pine Sporting Complex in Brendale, a modern facility that matched the club’s ambitions. A year later, in 2001, the club officially adopted the name Pine Rivers St Andrews Hockey Club Inc., reflecting its evolving identity and strong community ties.

That same year, the club celebrated a milestone when Liam De Young, a junior product, represented Australia at the Junior World Cup. He later joined the Kookaburras, playing in the 2002 World Cup, Commonwealth Games, and multiple Champions Trophy tournaments.

Club Colours, Culture & Community (2003–Present)

In 2003, the club unified its identity with a new uniform combining royal blue, bottle green, and white, symbolizing the merger and shared spirit. Over the years, the club has continued to thrive, winning numerous premierships, memorial cups, and championships across junior and senior divisions.

The club has also been home to many representative players, including state and national athletes, and has built a strong culture of volunteerism, coaching excellence, and community engagement.

Centenary Celebrations & Legacy (2023)

In 2023, Pine Rivers St Andrews Hockey Club proudly celebrated its 100th anniversary, marking a century of hockey excellence, community spirit, and sporting achievement. The Centenary Gala at Rydges South Bank was a highlight, bringing together generations of players, families, and supporters.
